Could not contact update.ecessa.com

The message "Could not contact update.ecessa.com" usually means that DNS resolvers are not set.  The DNS servers that the Ecessa device should use are set on the Configure Services page in the web interface.  Enter at least one DNS server so that hostnames such as update.ecessa.com can be resolved.
